Startup Home Based Business Advice

With the U.S.’s current shaky economic landscape, and record numbers unemployed; business opportunities are becoming more and more the hot topic of discussion, as the ability to run a business out of the home has become the dream of millions of people.

Deciding what type of business works best from home, however, is quite difficult and risky. Once you have narrowed down a business to start from home, determining the risk factors involved is critical to the success of the business

Your personality will also be a major determining factor in whether or not you should start a home based Business. To run a successful home based business, you will need to be what’s known as a "Type D” Personality which is someone who exhibits determination, drive, discipline, and desire.

The first issue that needs to be addressed when starting a Home based business is the availability of financial resources necessary for the business. Quite often people start a home based business without seriously thinking of the cost involved in starting and maintaining it. This nonchalant approach can force the business owner to operate on an unplanned shoestring budget, which increases the chance of business failure.

Proper financial planning for your home based business involves: calculating the costs involved in office equipment, advertising / promotional materials, and the estimated increases on your monthly utility bills just to name a few.

The best way to start a business is to bootstrap it with your own money. If you have limited funds to start with, you need to create a budget and stick to it so your chance of success will increase. If you don’t have funds available you can seek funding from friends and family, or apply for a small business loan….however keep in mind that in either case you will most likely need to produce a sound business plan.

maybe in the wrong section but business advice?
Please don’t criticize , im just looking for a little guidance.

I am 5 1/2 months pregnant and had to quit my job because it was too stressful (it was basically a form of law enforcement in a nutshell). I was looking at starting a home-based "business" with my kind of skills (which i will list) as just a way to make a little extra cash, without spending a fortune to start a business. First, I am looking for something like that doesn’t require me to hire anyone right now, doesn’t require having to pay taxes for a small business, and no, i DO NOT want to take online surveys.
I can sew, do very limited things with embroidery, I can paint but really don’t have the patience. I have an Associates of Art in Studio Art degree.
I was thinking about finding something I could sell for a small startup fee? Any help? Thank you!!!!

Would you give writing a try?

Embroidery, crafts and arts … huge market I would say for people
    a) looking for inspiration
    b) trying to learn craft/art etc
    c) interested in buying embroidery/craft/art supplies

think about, is there an item that you would love to get your hands on but haven’t been able to locate it? this can lead to a product to sell.

The other avenue is writing about these things. There are a number of online article publishing networks where you can set up accounts and receive an income through writing. If its something people want to know about and its not well covered online (keywords with high hits but little competition) then you will get traffic to your site. If you find your good at the writing, you could turn it into an ebook.

are a few websites that you could look at

It doesnt matter how small your business is it will still require you file taxes.

You might look at different boutiques and see if they will resell items you make. You can also try selling items on ebay and etsy. Etsy is a site only for homemade items.
