What is best home theatre system or receiver for indoor and outdoor setup?
Posted by admin in Home Theatre on July 31, 2010
I’m looking to find out what to look for in a receiver or Home Theatre system so I am able to watch tv inside, and play a dvd or ipod outside using the same receiver. (i.e. Dora inside and Radiohead outside on the deck) Any help would be appreciated!!
there’s a lot of multi-room receivers out there but i don’t think it would be able to play 2 sources at the same time, I am not sure though. i suggest you go visit bestbuy or magnolia.

how do you get televisions sound to come through the home theatre speakers?
Posted by admin in Home Theatre on July 21, 2010
I have a phillips Home Theatre running to a Sony TV. The TV is surround sound capable. DVD comes thru fine, TV only operates with it’s own sound.
yes, it’s true that you have to hook the tv up to the receiver using the a/v (white and red) cables. but then you would also want to go to the menu in the tv and make sure that the internal speakers are turned off. you may also need to turn the volume of the tv up. this would be in the case that the output on the back of the tv is of the "variable" variety. if the output is "fixed" then you would not need to adjust the volume on the television. make sure that wherever you connect the tv on the back of the receiver labeled IN, you have the receiver on that function.

What is the name of the home theatre systems that are always on mtv cribs?
Posted by admin in Home Theatre on July 11, 2010
I’m looking into a Home Theatre system, and have been looking for some type of system that makes it where i dont have to have stacks of dvds. I know there’s apple tv and many others, but the memory of those are limited. i want something more, similar to the ones on mtv cribs that can hold a ton of music and movies. Do you know the name of the makers of these systems? Thanks!
Well of course most of those systems are all custom designed. But what your looking for there are a number of options that are available separately that can be used in any ones systems.
Most of these are not cheap though, I will give you another option at then end that if you are looking to do more on a budget maybe something for you to look into.
Escient: makes one of the more affordable media servers. It works pretty well not to difficult to setup, as will all of them they do require internet access to download cover art and update media information..
Kaleidescape: is making the best system right now but is very expensive. Its a amazing system
The other two lower price options are Sony and a few others make mulit disc cd and dvd players that you just incorporate into your system.
Lastly you can build a custom media server (if your good at building pc’s or know someone that is)
You can build it with as much storage are you would need and add to it as your library increases, everything is stored on hard drives no need to handle dvd’s or cd’s again once they are burned onto your media server. They quality of playback is determined by the quality of video card you use so if you are doing 1080p you will need a very good video card so keep that in mind.
I’m including links to all these options including how to build a media server if that is something you might be able to do with some help.

Why can’t I connect the speakers of my SONY home theatre to the Samsung TV using a HD MI cable?
Posted by admin in Home Theatre on June 21, 2010
I have connected my SONY home theatre to the Samsung TV using a HD MI cable. When I am playing DVD, I can get the sound output from the Home Theatre speakers but when I am on TV, the sound from the Home theatre speakers is lost. How do I get it back?
Did you buy a inexpensive $299 "system"? These things are glorified DVD players with cheap attached speakers. They play the sound from the DVD player fine, but usually do not have spare inputs.
(sigh)
Look on the back of your ’system’. Does it have a spare optical input? If so – run an optical cable from your TV output to the input on the ’system’.
If the ’system’ only has red/white RCA plugs – this is stereo and most TV’s cannot send sound to these.
Remodeling Projects That Add Value
Posted by admin in Home Theatre on June 14, 2010
Have you been wanting to add a room, turn a closet into a bathroom, revamp and modernize your kitchen, replace appliances, or retile the floor? Remodeling projects can really add to the usefulness and space of your home, but some will add more (and in some cases a lot more) value to your home. Here is what some of the best real estate experts are recommending:
1) Keep within the bounds of your neighborhood – a $50,000 Home Theatre is neat to have, but if you live in a $100K-$200K neighborhood this will not add much to your resale value or can make it very hard to sell for what you want. You would be out pacing and outpricing your neighborhood. If you are going to stay in your house for ever this is fine (you can do whatever you like then). Look at what your neighbors have or are doing and look at recent sales prices and trends for your neighborhood. A good, seasoned, local realtor can be a big help here. They know what adds value and will help sell for top dollar.
2) Kitchens and bathrooms are key! In every area of the country these remodeling projects are the best at recouping their cost and actually adding to the resale value of your house. Average return on investment 100 – 105%. Energy efficient appliances, stainless steel, new countertops, new sink, paint, flooring, crown molding will do wonders for the kitchen. Only go for granite if some of your neighboring houses have it, else you are again out pricing your house. New fixtures, tub, double instead of single sink, recessed lighting, flooring and paint for the bathroom will catch a buyers eye – less they will have to do to make it home. Tip – when painting go with neutral tones and, if possible, use a expert for tips on colors.
3) Decks, fences, bathroom addition (not remodel). Average return on investment 80 – 90%. These projects can be costly when comparing cost versus value, but recoup enough and add functionality so they are still good ideas. Be sure to use experts for any addition projects as you may have code issues and zoning requirements an expert is better able to meet.
4) Home office, screened porches, refurbished basement, attic bedroom, home office. These projects are a little lower on the average return on investment, 70 – 85%, but they should not be overlooked as they can make your house sell quicker. A screened porch is a must in some neighborhoods and many buyers have now come to desire or even require a Home office as current trends show an increase in home offices and the self employed. Also, a home office may be partially tax deductible. Again, the rule is stick with tradition, look at your local furniture stores to see what people like their rooms to look like. Large furniture manufacturers spend millions to find what people want in home offices and such and place their Furniture and room settings with this in mind. Don’t go to modern or try something unique, tradition sells. The more unique you make your home the harder it will be to sell it.
5) Game rooms, saunas, pools, bars, upgraded windows, etc… These are projects that are good if you are planning on staying in the home for a long time and don’t care too much about resale value. These projects generally have much lower resale values and will only result in a loss of money. Again, it is best to ask a local realtor what works and what does not.
There you have it – what works and what does not. Keep in mind there are some communities where the norm can be different and it is always best to consult an expert for their opinion. Besides it is free to consult the best experts – real estate professionals.

Windsor Hills: An Orlando Resort Community at the Gate of Disney World
Posted by admin in Home Theatre on June 5, 2010
During the past ten years there has been a surge of interest in vacation home rentals in the Orlando area and especially in the area right next to Disney World. A combination of reasonable prices and maximum amenities is the reason why many vacationers have forsaken hotel accommodations in favor of rental homes. Another secret to the success of the rental Homes is the fabulous resort communities in which the vacation rentals are situated. One of the most renowned resort communities is Windsor Hills located 1.5 miles from the gates of Disney World.
The homes in the Windsor Hills community range from two bedroom condos, to spacious town homes and go right up to six (6) bedroom villas. All of the homes are fully equipped and are ready for you and your family to enjoy. When I say “fully equipped” that means the homes have private screened swimming pool and spa and the townhomes have a small pool. In each home you will find a master suite with a king or queen size bed and TV. In addition you get a Master bathroom with a garden tub and separate shower.
The kitchens are fully equipped and there is a breakfast area and a formal dining area. Each home, condo or townhome also has one or two living areas with TV, VCR or DVD player, and each unit has a washer and dryer. You can also find homes that include billiards, table tennis and air hockey equipment as well as play stations for the kids.
As luxurious as the individual homes are the real attraction of Windsor Hills lies in its tremendous array of resort amenities. These include a huge lagoon-style pool complete with water slide and hot tub, a children’s playground, a state-of-the-art fitness center, sand volleyball, basketball courts, tennis courts, a 40-seat movie theatre, a video arcade, billiards and a shuttle bus service to Walt Disney World, SeaWorld and Universal Studios.
Whether you choose a single family pool home or opt for condo or town home, at Windsor Hills you are sure to get enough space and comfort for your family, as well as enough resort facilities to satisfy everyone. In case you are interested in the price, let’s look at two examples. A two bedroom condo rents from $100 a day in the low season and goes up to $135 per day in the peak holiday periods (Christmas, New Year, Easter) while a four bedroom, four bath pool home is available for $175 per day in the low season and for $215 per day in the peak holiday periods.
If you are Traveling with your family or with two families you can do the arithmetic and see that the per person costs for vacation rentals in Windsor Hills are mighty attractive. When you add in the amenities of this resort community and its close proximity to Disney World, you can understand why savvy Florida vacationers have made Windsor Hills their first choice for accommodations near Disney World.

Difference between Hdmi Home theatre and Regular home theatre?
Posted by admin in Home Theatre on May 22, 2010
Ok looking for a Home theatre for my hdtv, hdmi compatability. But if I buy a Home Theatre with hdmi and connect it to the tv through component, will there be much of a difference if it where the hdmi version? Just looking towards the sound quality since my ps3 can’t support the sound on the regular tv speakers.
HDMI is a single cable (looks like a giant USB cable) that will transmit both Hi-def video content up to 1080p and true surround sound. Component HD cables transmit video up to 1080i, so you won;t notice much of a difference in video quality (none if your tv can’t display 1080p). With component HD, you will need to decide on an audio connection.
Your PS3 has an hdmi out so that would solve all your problems if your receiver has an HDMI INPUT. You plug the ps3 into the receiver via HDMI, plug the receiver to the tv using component and you should be good to go.
Other audio options include Digital Optical or plain old RCA(white/red) cables.
Btw, those RCA cables SHOULD work on just about any setup…it will only be stereo but it should work. Are you using that with your current setup?
