Before Buying Exotic Pets
Each year millions of family pets are lost, and end up at shelters that have no idea who these pets belong to, or how to contact the owners to return the pets. But, something as simple as a pet tag that you only have to register for once, because the contact information can be updated free for the life of the pet, can almost erase this problem and reunite many pets with their families.
Questions to Ask Before for Buying Exotic Pets
Having a pet has always been found by many to be a life enriching experience. It isn’t unusual for people to have a dog or a cat as companions at home. However, there are people who aren’t content with the typical animal friends, others want the excitement and thrill that can be provided by exotic pets. Acquiring and maintaining exotic Pets are not really that difficult nowadays, but if you are considering to get an exotic pet, you must first ask yourself the following questions:
Why do you want an exotic pet?
Many people consider having exotic pets because it seems to be cool to have one. However, having exotic pets is a serious decision that one must carefully examine. Many exotic pets need more care than typical pets. You should weigh all factors according to your abilities and capacities before getting any particular exotic pet.
Is it legal to keep the exotic pet?
Some animals are prohibited by law to be kept as pets. You should make sure that your area allows people to own the particular species you are eyeing before getting it. Otherwise you might have to give up your pet or be penalized for owning it. What are exotic pets like?
Do you have the capacity and ability to own the exotic pet?
Keep in mind that some pets, like a dog for example, are much more expensive to own than others. It is important that you know what you and your family can do to keep your pet healthy, happy and safe before you make any purchases.
As mentioned, most exotic pets need extra care and attention. You must be sure that you have the time, effort and money to spend caring for the exotic pet. Can you feed it? Can you provide appropriate shelter? Can you afford the Health care expenses? Owning pets, especially exotic ones, takes great responsibility, and you must be certain that you have this quality before owning one.
Can the pet live in your area?
Certain pets may be legal in your area, but they may not necessarily be able to live in your Home. Some pets might be too noisy or too rowdy to live in apartments and condominiums. Pets usually require a certain amount of space, air, and sunlight to live well and you have to be sure that your home can provide that.
Is the pet safe for you and your companions?
Pets have different levels of aggression and you must be sure that you and the people you live with can cope with the behavioral tendencies of the pet. Some exotic pets might also be poisonous or are prone to certain infectious diseases, and thus you have to make sure that you and your companions can avoid any untoward incidents.
Having exotic pets is a serious matter and you should examine everything before deciding to own one.
Some pets are stolen. A pet thief may snatch Fifi or Fido in hopes of getting a reward for its return, or to use in dog fights (even small or gentle dogs are susceptible – they can be used as “bait”), or for use in cult rituals.

What kind of pets did people have during the American Revolution?
Just a curious question. A friend and I were discussing this and we found it would just be a neat thing to know. Did they even have pets? I’ve heard dogs were popular, but what kind? I’ve heard a lot of different answers, and research is too much of a pain for a ‘just to know’ question.
I don’t think they tended to keep Pets (not the way we think of them), though they would have had working animals, including dogs to guard and manage livestock, horses for transportation, oxen for pulling heavy loads, and cats for pest control. I’m sure there were a few people who had a particular fondness for an animal, but I doubt it was the norm. It would have been an extravagance.

How can pet owners tell if their pets, cats or dogs are happy?
I seem to think that my cats are bored because they sleep too much!
They seem sad, not very playful and they are only 1 year old.
What are some signs of happy pets or unhappy Pets?
Cats are supposed to sleep an average of 18 hours a day… that is perfectly normal… as long as they eat sleep and poop normally… you have a happy cat… some cats are just not that playful while others are bouncing off the wall… chill… they are cats doing what cats do best lol

What happens when your flying a pet interstate and it has a stopover? Where do they keep the pets?
I have a puppy from Adelaide being flown up to the pilbara today. He has a stopover in Perth for 30-35 minutes. What will happen to him there? Do they store the Pets in air-conditioning, are they fed? Looked over to make sure they are ok? Are they given water?
For a 35 minute stopover he would stay in the freight hanger
If he missed his connection then the airline would be required (we hope!) to send him to a kennel

What do your pets do when you get in the bed?
I have 3 cats and the youngest always comes running from wherever he is at in the house when he hears me turn on the fan and jumps right in the bed with me. It’s sooo cute. The others will eventually come and run across my head while I’m sleeping or wake me up in the morning, but my youngest definitely has them beat in this category with his antics.
What cute or annoying things do your Pets do when you are in the bed?
My 2 cats each sleep on either side of me in bed. The dogs would like to also but the cats won’t let them.
My cat George is very dysfunctional since he was taken from his mom at 4 weeks. (He’s now 7 years old). He kneads bread on me and puts his head on my shoulder and in the morning, gently taps my face until I wake up to give him his breakfast. He’s better than any alarm clock I’ve had. Trouble is, he wants his breakfast at 5AM!!
How do you keep unwanted neighborhood pets out of your yard in a safe way?
We just moved into a beautiful Home and unfortunately our neighbor has about a half dozen cats and they seem to like our front yard as a litter box. (yuck!) We have three small children and no pets so having to pick up after someone elses Pets is not cool at all. Plus it’s unsanitary! What can use that is eco-friendly and safe. Thank you and all answers are welcomed!
Well, let’s see. A yard is tricky since it’s such a large area. I normally sprinkle raw, fresh pepper over the areas I don’t want any of my four cats (all indoor babies) getting into. They really don’t appreciate the sneezing attacks that ensue.
I don’t approve of all the options listed in this site, but it has some good suggestions that are eco-friendly.

What time does pets at home in oldham close on a weekday?
I am planning to go to pets at home tomorrow, But I need to know the closing time for the one in Oldham!!!
PLEASE HELP ME!!! ![]()
6pm Mon – Wed – Fri
8pm Thurs & Sat
4pm Sun
Are the times they use all over the country.
Just to add, if you ever buy a rodent(s) from Pets at Home I suggest going 7:30pm on Thursday or Saturday because they are more likely to be awake.
Also, even though I wasnt buying, when I went there at 7:30 my mum asked a guy wether their rats were male or female, and he got one out and let me play with her!
Are our first world country pets more important than third world starving children?
Just an FYI, I like animals. I think they should be treated fairly, although maybe not to the extent PETA would like. But I do not condone animal cruelty. On that same note, first world countries treat animals like royalty at times. There are plenty of pet owners who treat Pets like they are their own children and would spend easily 50+ bucks just so they’re dog could get a pampered bath and groom. Meanwhile, a starving third world child may struggles to get even a few cents worth of Food with any nutritional value.
Yes, my dog is more important to me than any kids in the third world, and that is true for deveral very good reasons.
First of all those companies that advertise on TV pay their CEO’s 300K a year. Only about 1/4 of the money you send ever reaches that country. After it gets there it lines the pockets of the rich. Only a few pennies of that $50 will buy anything for the child.
Secondly, when you give money, you only make the situation worse. You take away their reason to work for themselves. I have seen that in the USA many times. My friends that grew up with everything can hardly function as adults. I had barely food to eat when I grew up. I managed to work my way through college on my own.
Thirdly, the government’s of those countries are making a fortune off people, like you, sending money. They have a vested interest in keeping the children poor so that they can keep photographing them and suckering you into sending money. Keep in mind that for some of those countries their biggest export is photographs of starving children. The government officials have palaces and drive expensive cars thanks to people like yourself.
How does Mexicana airlines treat pets in cargo hold?
I am relocating and need to take my dog with me. They won’t let her travel in the passenger cabin anymore so I want to know if anyone with recent experience Traveling with their Pets as cargo with mexicana can let me know how do they treat pets. Thanks!
i would never trust my dog with anyone else but myself when i am traveling and that includes mexican people
i would guess they would treat them just as they would treat luggage… very poorly
