How do sports like fencing or archery work in colleges?
let’s explain better.
Im going to graduate high school, would like to do either of these sports, if these Sports are available at a college can I participate in them even if I have never practiced the sport. The colleges on which im planning to attend do not specify anything and apparently they are not intramural. My high school does not offer these sports and neither does my town.
While I do not have experience with college archery and/or fencing teams, I do have experience with archery and fencing done by college students.
If the college(s) you are looking at do(es) not offer archery and/or fencing, you should find out if there is an SCA (Society for Creative Anachronisms, Inc.) branch located at/affiliated with the college(s) you are interested in. The SCA, because its main focus is the study and re-creation/re-enactment of the Middle Ages, incorporates archery and fencing into its activities — and most major colleges (and many community colleges) have an on-campus SCA presence. The good part is that you do not have to join the SCA to take part in the archery/fencing, unless you want to join.
I have been involved in archery for more than 30 years, spent ten of those years with SCA archery, and have tried SCA fencing. Don’t let anyone fool you into thinking that fencing is easy or for "sissies", because it is neither — and SCA fencing is only slightly more strenuous than Olympic fencing (the main difference is Olympic fencing is limited to back-and-forth; In SCA fencing, you get to move around and use some foot-work).
Visit
http://sca.org/
and find out if there is a group affiliated with/located at the college of your choice. Then send an e-mail, and ask questions about archery and fencing.

Knee Injuries – How to Avoid This Common Sports Injury
Knee injuries are the most common sports injury seen in Britain today.
In running alone, 60% of all runners are injured in an average year and about one third of these sports injuries affect the knee.
Knee injuries are also the most common sports injuries sustained by school children, as they often occur during football, hockey and rugby.
Yet far too little is known by the general public about the advantages of knee support or the other simple steps that can be taken to help knee injury prevention.
The knee is the largest joint in the body, made up of bones, cartilage, muscles, tendons and ligaments. A knee Sports injury can involve any of these.
It can be hard to understand knee injuries and some of the complicated terms used do not make this any easier for the layperson.
You may have heard of knee ‘overuse’ for example. Well, although it is sometimes called an ‘overuse’ injury, the real name of the condition is iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS). This is one of the most common knee injuries. It is actually caused by a lack of strength and flexibility rather than anything than can accurately be described as overuse. In fact, it can be brought on in runners even if they are only running around 5 miles, which can hardly be seen as overuse.
There are a number of other common knee injuries. First, there is a knee sprain which means you have stretched or torn a ligament. Then there are strains, which mean you have torn a muscle or tendon.
Tendinitis happens when a tendon gets inflamed. Damage to the menisci is a really common sports injury, especially in activities where a side to side movement or a sudden change in speed can cause them to tear.
And, of course, sometimes there can be cartilage injuries, where a small piece of bone or cartilage breaks off, causing long term knee pain.
Osgood Schlatter Disease is particularly common in teenagers aged between 10-15, especially if they are having a growth spurt. A typical symptom is pain just below the front of the kneecap on the tibia, which gets worse with activity. There is sometimes a bump below the knee joint that is painful to touch. Osgood Schlatter Disease is especially common in boys who play sports involving running, kicking, or jumping, all of which put strain on the quadriceps muscles.
The arterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is the most common knee ligament to be damaged in a sports injury, usually by a sudden twist or landing badly after a jump. Interestingly, women athletes are eight times more likely to suffer from damage to the arterior cruciate ligament than men.
Nobody is immune from knee injuries, with many professional footballers like Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Paul Gascoigne being well known for their knee injuries.
For many knee injuries, it is advised to rest the knee and apply compression. In these cases, a knee brace can help. In the very worst cases, surgery may be necessary.
As knee injuries are so painful and so common, prevention is always better than cure. When playing sport, it is a good idea to wear protective equipment, such as kneepads and shin guards. Knee support including knee straps and knee braces can also help prevent injury and protect your knee if you have injured it previously.
It is also vital to make sure you always warm up and cool down and that your training programme is increased gradually, so that you do not put your knee under undue strain.
It is well worth trying weightlifting to strengthen your muscles and yoga or stretching to improve flexibility, as this will cut down the risk of sports injury. And, of course, if your sport involves jumping, do make sure you bend your knees when you land.
Increasing awareness about knee injuries, knee support and sports first aid can help you stay fit, so is a vital ingredient to becoming a successful athlete.

What is the best sports website for a cellphone with little capacity?
I have an el-cheapo cellphone that has internet access, but it can only load small webpages. I used to always use NBC Sports mobile webpage, but now when I try to go to it, I get "File too large". Same thing for CBS Sports website. Has anyone else in the same boat with me found a good mobile sports website that isn’t a large file size? Right now I am using Yahoo’s but it is not as good as NBC.
try espn.com or foxsports.com

Chicago Sports and Fitness
There is one thing that Chicago is known for above all others, and that is sports. Whether it is the recent World Series Champion Chicago White Sox, the dynasty of the Chicago Bulls, the Original Six team of the Chicago Blackhawks, or the loveable losers known as the Chicago Cubs, sports is big in Chicago.
Naturally, those that enjoy the sports of Chicago love to talk about sports. People will gather at parks, clubs, pubs, libraries, and even the sidewalk to talk about Chicago sport problems and triumphs. They will devise their own plans for how to get the Bulls winning again, get the Bears rolling, or the Blackhawks scoring. Sometimes you may not want to go out to talk to people about the sports in the city, or you may not know of anyone who may enjoy the sports of Chicago.
A number of hot topics have come from the Chicago Bears and their unique brand of fans or the long rivalry that they have had with some of the most dominant teams in the NFL. Even some of the former players of the Chicago Bears have elevated to a near mythical status with their odd nicknames and also their incredible approach to a sport that embraces the harsh winters and the brutality of the grin iron.
There are few that can forget the six time NBA Champion Chicago Bulls and their dynamic duo of MJ and Pippen. Both of these incredible figures were the focus of media attention and countless discussions by those that truly enjoy the sports of Chicago. Even the addition of Rodman brought forth a new nickname for the three key players and also for the dominance that they had in the league. In the final two runs for the Championship, as “Superman” (Jordan) and “Batman” (Pippen) took control of the games, it was “Rodman” (Rodman) that was able to confound and control Karl Malone and stem the offense of the Utah Jazz. Some may say that the duo and their couch found a way to bring out the best in an oddity in a professional sport.
Perhaps the one area of sports that has always been a focus in the media and also in Chicago has been the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Cubs. There have been few cities that have two professional sports and there are even fewer that have had the rivalry that the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Cubs have had. This has even been a focus on television shows and movies as the rivalry is one of legendary status.

Are sports important on your high school resume when applying to go to a college?
I am wondering because I am very athletic, however I am not sure if I want to participate in any sports.
I take on a lot of leadership skills, extracurricular activities, and I am practically valedictorian, but just how important are Sports on your resume?
Colleges like it if you played sports in high school because it shows that you are a team player and that you have school spirit.
It’s not necessarily better than other extracurriculars, but it does look good to colleges.

Where are You Getting Your Sports Equipments?
Sports equipment is a very wide term to denote a variety of sports goods used for playing different games.
