Support for Higher Education

Public colleges and universities have a symbiotic relationship with state governments. Public higher education institutions as a part of social foundation play a significant role in creating an educated community and improving state and local economies. Local and state governments are responsible for financing these institutions, contributing to the educational sphere. However for the last years cuts in appropriations for higher education have been noticed. Investments into education are slowly decreasing, that is why the relationship between universities and the state are much spoken about to be eroding.

Let’s analyze the reason of such situation. The main factor that has declined state’s support for public colleges and universities is economic recessions. For the last 25 years those recessions were decreasing state funding; less and less money are being allotted to higher Education. In addition to this the federal government is not shifting towards higher education anymore. Federal and state governments are noticed to give more and more responsibilities to municipal and county governments. And some of them are not ready to care such responsibility. The funding squeeze has also occurred because public universities have to compete more intensely for funding with other state programs such as Medicaid, K-12 schools, social services. For example Medicaid is expected to put an especially intense pinch on higher education funding in the next years as a larger share of public funds will be required to support the aging population of Baby Boomers.

For the last time we can witness changes in the relationship between states and public higher education. These changes are mostly influenced by economic and political factors. As evidence, there is a fact that more and more major public research universities are transforming into quasi-private institutions. That is why lots of research universities are raising tuition and doing fundraisings. Some legislators dispute that universities have not done enough to control their costs or to plan for more well-organized use of their assets. I am sure that most of you would agree that our educational system need more well-analyzed actions and that our government should make determined decision that would impact education only in a positive way.

Both Obama and McCain support higher education, but will they buy my textbooks?
I already have enough money from fasfa and my own money to buy them, but I would like some FREE books.

Besides it was a nonsensical question.

Perhaps all Americans can pay for your textbooks, provided you apply for a Pell Grant or Student Loan. Contact your higher institutions for further details. Oh remember vote this General Election.

Probably not. They both want everyone to go to college but do nothing to help those of us who make enough money to go but don’t have anything left to spend on gas, food, a place to live ect.

Obama will as long as you don’t spend money on the latest iPod.
McCain will rather spend the money for war and tax cuts for the wealthy.
He supports extreme capitalism but forgets that the society needs some equilibrium.

Sure. McCain will. Hurry and vote for him. He’ll give you anything you want just like the B.H.O. McCain will even give you things you don’t ask for, like should you ever become a productive member of society he will allow you you keep more of the money you earn.

Now quit whining get a entry level job at minimum wage and buy your own damn books! I forgot. Since the last minimum wage increase not too many of those entry level jobs anymore.

If it helps these people get elected they will stand on one ear and spit wooden nickles. Once they are in office they suddenly develop amnesia. They are all so over managed they don’t even know what they are saying anymore. There was an old advertising slogan for a perfume called Arpege. Promise them anything but give them Arpege. When you listen to these people on the campaign trail what they tell you, you can be sure that they have at least one hand behind their backs and their fingers crossed. Yeah I will vote like I always do but I never forget to turn off my gag reflex before I pull the lever. But I have digressed in answer to your question no. At least not directly. Good Luck Bob
