Should children be exposed to food (primarily fast food and sweets) advertisements?
Children and/or preteens are often confused with TV programs and advertisements. They believe anything those ads. say. And parents, most of the time can’t stand those "puppies’ eyes". Do we really want the kids to suffer from obesity and diabetes in the future? Or even now?

NO! teach them to eat healthy, and it will pay back in the future.

the problem isn’t with the advertisements… it’s with the parents letting the kids primarily eat the bad foods and not teaching their kids about what foods are good and what foods are bad. parents need to teach their kids about eating the right foods and only eating the bad foods on occasion.

I never had a problem with television advertising…first of all I limited my daughter’s television time to an hour a day. Secondly when she said "I want" I said "No" It’s called PARENTING.

I think that, since you can hardly avoid the exposure… you have to allow it and then teach your child moderation and also to know when something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

My daughter begged and begged for something she saw on an infomercial and I kept telling her it was junk… finally I gave in and let her buy it with her own money. She learned her lesson.

that is exactly why the advertising companies do that- is because they know the child will believe everything they tell them. Which is a little scary if you think about it, but I agree that it is the parents responsibility to teach your children about what can happen if you eat "junk food". I always tell mine that alittle mcdonalds every now and then is okay, but not all the time. Then I tell her about food that will make her healthy and strong. So she still like Mcdonalds, but she knows that there are better foods for her and she enjoys eating those too. But yeah, the advertising sucks,, and I think it really makes parents to out to be the bad guys if we say no, but then if we say yes all the time- the people around us will come down on us. I just always tell them no and why we can’t.

I don’t worry myself about the ads – the kids know that McDonnalds and the like are a treat and nothing more – once a month at the most – tho sometimes when the weather is crummy we go to the play place there and just order a small soft drink or something :)
