Pets are the best way of getting companionship, relaxation and amusement and are especially beneficial for children. Scientific studies show that kids who grow up with Pets are more confident, socially adjusted and compassionate to those around them. From domestic animals like Dogs, Cats, Birds, Fish, small animals such as Guinea Pigs, Rats and Mice, Rabbits, Ferrets and, Hamsters to the more unusual like Lizards, Spiders, Frogs and Snakes etc. can make a great pet for you.
It’s very essential that you know how to train those pets. Training not only develops a bond with your pets but also allows your pets to see you in a new light. Training encourages them to use their brain. The most important aspect is that you start training them as soon as you get one. If it is a puppy, it can begin learning by its 8th week when you bring it Home. As for any new older dog, this training gets your relationship started right. You must patiently and consistently train your pets with motivation. Dogs learn better and faster when motivated. They need to be brought consistently in touch with different people, places, animals, and things so that they do not develop behavioral concern. Rewarding good behavior will be the most effective tool you
have in training your pets.
There are many other things to consider like the personalities of the pets. You can research through the internet and can choose the perfect pet for you and your family. If you have young kids, pick an animal that is tolerant of kids. This is especially important aspect to consider since puppies and cats need a lot of attention while they are growing up. If you are adventurous then a dog can be your perfect companion. Just you have to ensure that they fit into your lifestyle and you can adjust to their needs. The environment that you are going to provide to them is an essential aspect. Birds must not be kept near the kitchen; dogs need room to run around, cats constantly climb on top of everything. Also, if you’re on a busy street with a lot of traffic, an animal that needs a lot of outdoor time may have a short-lived existence as a family pet.
Look and research into each and every aspect before buying a pet. The age of your children must also be looked into while buying a pet for your family. Thus, take into account all the aspects and find yourself a pet that suits you and your family.

Which of these pets would be best for my situation?
Hello! I’ve decided to go to a college that allow pets (please don’t question my ability to care for animals as I am very responsible and have no intentions whatsoever of doing normal "college kid" things while attending college) and have been trying to get a pet for several years now, but to no success thanks to my strict mother. Long story short- I want a pet that is cute, small and a great companion. The animals I’ve been looking at are dogs, rats and ferrets. I plan on majoring in either Biology for Pre-Veterinary Medicine or Fashion Marketing (or Design). The college has a specific pet dorm with a fenced in yard. My favorite things about each animal are as follows: Dogs are the best companions of them all, which is why I’ve been leaning towards them. Rats are arguably just as good companions as dogs and I’ve always thought rats were absolutely adorable. Ferrets are probably the cutest, in my opinion, of the three (although, probably tied with chihuahuas and himilayan rats) and are about the perfect size for me. I love how silly they are! Although, they are not as affectionate as rats or dogs, overall. What would you suggest?

Ferrets smell bad and rats have no bladders, therefore they pee constantly, everywhere they go. I would go with a small dog. Both ferrets and rats are smart and playful, but the dog is an ideal pet.

I would personally choose a cat, but that’s just me. They groom themselves, exercise themselves, and love on you when you come home
. They are usually mellow, yet fun. I think ferrets have the closest fur texture to cats, so I would choose them. Even though they aren’t affectionate, they are still holdable. If not, go for a chihuahua. Please don’t choose a rat

Ferrets can be mean, a rat sounds good, because it isn’t mean, and doesn’t make much noise, like dogs do.

If you’re open to the idea of a cat, I’d suggest getting a kitten. Cats are okay being left alone sometimes, while dogs are not. They’re less work in general, between the fact that they use a litter box instead of having to be taken outside, they’re naturally more independent, and they require a lot less training. But out of the pets you’ve listed, I’d say a rat or a ferret. I’d assume a rat is cheaper to keep, so that would be my suggestion.

I’d say rat just cos dogs and especially ferrets require a LOT of care & attention. Dogs need trained, ferrets need special accomodations so they dont go and get lost behind tiny openings, and they need a lot of play time, and they tend to be sickly cos they’re very inbred.
Rats only pee a tiny tiny bit and pee is sterile so who cares if they dampen yer shirt

Wait until you have been in college for at least a year before you decide to get a pet. I’m sure you are a responsible person, but college is stressful. You will be much busier than you think. Give yourself time to adjust and make sure you can handle a pet.
Out of all those animals, I would recommend rats. They don’t need to be let out to go potty like a dog, they smell better than ferrets, and since they need to live in pairs they can keep each other company if you have a busy day and can’t play with them.

I would suggest a small dog. Have you seen the dog whisperer with Cesar Milan? Dogs can take alot of work to deal with but are the ultimate companion for a human. I would go with a dog, final answer.

dont get a rat!!!!!! i had one and they poo and pee everyone and mine bit me and i had to clean the discusting cage! they get away soooo easily. ferrets are really cool. if i were u i would get a snake (ball python or corn) or cat. snakes poop and eat once a week and u only have to put carpet or paper towel at the bottom. a dog would take to much time to train and to walk and everything. but thats a good choice too

Okay, so… out of the three pets I will narrow it down to my strong choice. I have had experiences with owning all three animals at one point in my life.
rat pros: easy to care for as attention/play time goes
not very expensive
do not make noise like a dog would
can be trained some what
rat cons: They must be in a cage. cage = poop poop = constant, and i mean -constant- subtle stank
of rat. (small dorm room anyone? yuck)
Although they do not require boundless attention like a dog would, they do not give it back
either
They get … boring….who wants to play with a rat day in and day out?
I am going to let ferrets fall under the same pros and cons as rats but x 2 on the pro and con extremes. Including smell!
A small dog would be a good option for you (time and school permitting) especially since you are allowed an outdoor fenced area. I have had a few dogs in my day. By far best experience and most humorous would have been with my two smaller ones, a mini dachshund, and a mini dachshund cross chihuahua. You take your pick on the breed though. A dog will fulfill your obvious need for an animal to care for. They are truly lovely and as long as you do your research on the breed and are committed to the animal… then there is really no limit to the bond you will create.
Also. they are so damn cuuuuuuuute.
pros: everything.
cons: walkies, vet bills, time and attention, noise
I guess it depends on the energy your willing to put towards the animal and what your looking for in return, if anything.. but make no mistake, a rat (or ferret) does not come close to the company of a dog!
happy searching.
I hope this helps a teeeeny bit
Good luck

well, ferrets are amazing. i would recommend getting one. but give it a while before you get anything. but if u just cant wait, go with a rat, as they are the easiest to care for.
also: ferrets arent mean. so u people posting and saying that they are all mean are wrong. it depends how you train them as babys, and even without training most of them are nice. ferrets rule.

ferrets are cool – and fun, but do need to be trained well at first..It’s hard to resist a baby of any species and it’s difficult not to fall madly and hopelessly in love with a kit! They are both a delight and yet "bouncily" mischievous. And if that weren’t enough, these little guys appear to have an endless supply of energy.
